    The "old navy proverb" (or story) that my dad once told me from his days on board ship is a good one for parents:
    One of his fellow enlistees, who didn't want to do something his c.o. told him to do, said, "You can't make me!" To which the c.o. replied simply, "No, but I can sure make you wish you had!"
