Declutter Your Church

Start with defining your process of disciple-making. Align all that your church does around this process, and get rid of the programs and ministries that don’t facilitate or nurture that process.

Mark,Thanks for your article. It is most helpful to us.We are walking through change right now.We have many new young family believers and they need much discipling. It takes time!We are attempting to rid ourselves of excess baggage and focus on our purposed vision.Christ taught simplicity and this is what we must do.

  2. Hi Pastor Mark: Sometimes we welcome busyness in the church because it also translates as involvement and that is generally a good thing. To many small churches get focused inwardly and nothing much happens in them. I think the secret lies in not discouraging the busyness but looking for ways to always point it towards Christ. That is a leadership function. We have people who can be leaders and sometimes the first step to engage them is in busyness activities. If we can seek always to look for ways to turn the "weight loss" group or the "sewing" group or the AA group towards Jesus then we don't lose the leadership, don't lose the activity, but we accomplish something for the Kingdom. For His Glory; Steve U.
