A Long Day

Just now, they took Cathy down to have a c.t. scan. We waited all day -- and at 1o:00 p.m., it's finally happening. We won't know any of the results until tomorrow.

As a pastor, I've visited hundreds of people in the hospital -- but I had no clue of the long endurance it requires to "wait" for the next step.

The doctor was concerned about a rise in Cathy's white blood cell count -- but the situation won't get any better by fretting.

Tonight, we prayed together and drew strength from Psalm 34.

She's really groggy right now. I think this might be a good time to get her to agree to stuff!

I am so thankful for good friends who took our children in -- Randy and Pam Young invited Luke and Wes to their place. Jeff and Roberta Jackson opened their home to Hannah -- and I'm staying free at Fairfield Inn, thanks to a generous donation of "lodging points" from Jeff.

Ryan is at home, holding down the fort. Pastors Heath and Loretta assured me that they would check in on him and make sure he doesn't starve.

Adam is at college in New Brunswick, and we've had limited communication thus far.

Tonight, I am exhausted, but thankful -- for a good God, good friends, good kids, and a good wife -- who stays a classy lady, even when loopy with morphine.

    Dear Mark,

How ironic that just one year ago, I was hospitalized with the same thing. In fact, transferred from Spooner Hospital to St. Mary's Duluth. If there are any questions you have regarding pancreatitis, procedures, or test, please contact me; I might be able to give you some insight from both as a patient and a nurse.

Please let Cathy know how much she is in our thoughts and prayers. I know too well the pain and discomfort of the illness, and how hard it is for a mom to not only be ill, but hospitalized away from home. May she improve daily.

On a lighter note, when she is feeling better and able to get out of bed, have her check out the 10th floor balcony. You can go outside and get a fantastic view of Duluth.

    In Prayer,

    Marguerite Stroede and family

Reading people's comments, I am thinking, it is so neat to belong to the "Christian Society" as
C.S. Louis calls it in his book
    "Mere Christianity".

Our anniversary is also on the 27th, meaning that in July we got married legally (city hall) in Germany, and in August in the church, both months on the 27th.
(The pastor was on vacation in the
27th of July). But we both forgot what we did this year on the 27th of July! Terrible! It must be old age setting in. It was Lumberjack weekend and very hot ... and our business prevents us from going out much at that time of the year. We probably went out for a lunch break to the Norske Nook, air conditioned and all. Next year is our 30th, and we should probably do something we remember - but hopefully not a hospital room!

I'm thinking about Cathy this morning. She is very strong and a
person with great commitment in all that she does. We will keep
praying for her to get better, and also for your family. Hope you can make up for the nice planned romantic get-away. We really never do know what will happen on any given day do we?
All the best to all of you!
    May God bless you!
