Back in Blogosphere

After a long hiatus from blogging, I've decided to start posting again.  At one time, Revitalize Your Church had a considerable following, and was often ranked among the leading ministry blogs.  Then, things happened.   My blogging slowed to a stand-still and the readership evaporated. Several have asked me why I stopped blogging.  Here is an explanation -- along with why I'm back in the saddle again: First, I started writing books instead of blogs.  My friend, Keith Drury, told me, "blogging is jogging".  The book is the marathon.  But post-marathon (it has been two years since my last book), I failed to take up "jogging" (blogging) again.  It's time to get back into shape and hit the "writer's road"!  This is, perhaps, the only way to make the next book that is within me come to life. Secondly, the church I loved and led, Hayward Wesleyan , was in need of revitalization.  The blog title, "Revitalize Your Church", mocked me...

Another Great Blog

Here is another excellent blog from Marti, who also was a member of my blogging class.

Excellent Blog

Random Inspirations is a wonderful new blog created by one of the students from the Blogging Class I taught last week. She's just getting started -- and doing a great job of it! Stop by and pay her a visit!

Blogging Break

Flying out Monday to speak to a group of small town and rural pastors in central New York for a couple of days. I won't be doing any blogging until after my return home. In the meantime, feel free to check out a pretty cool list of blogs on one page via MyAlltop

My Alltop

Innovative author, technological guru, and inventor of Alltop, Guy Kawasaki has just introduced a new blog aggregator: My Alltop. You can see ALL your favorite blogs on one page -- along with titles of their most recent posts. Alltop originally started as a storehourse of all the top blogs in various categories. I was honored to have Revitalize Your Church listed as one of the Top Church Blogs. Now, we can personalize it -- and see all the blogs we want on one page! Great innovation!

God Size Down Under

My Aussie friend, Wayne Field, wrote a great review of God Size Your Church , written by my blogger buddy John Jackson. Good stuff!! John's insights are very helpful (I wrote an endorsement in the front of the book) and Wayne's perspective is particularly enlightening. I think it's really cool that the three of us pastors from Reno, Nevada (John), Australind, Western Australia (Wayne), and Hayward, Wisconsin (Me) consider each other friends -- even though we've never met! Purchase God Size Your Church Here.

A Batch of Great Blogs on One Page

From Church Relevance: In 2008, Guy Kawasaki created a website called Alltop that aggregates the latest content from the world’s top websites and organizes them by topic. It is a good idea turned great idea. In fact, Alltop’s church page has grown into a phenomenal resource that lists about 100 church related blogs worth reading. Since Alltop lists the 5 most recent posts for each website, the church page gives you about 500 posts from a wide scope of church leaders, influencers, and practitioners. Revitalize Your Church has been included on the Alltop Church Page!

Milestone

Yesterday, the 100,000th person came to Revitalize Your Church! It's incredible, really, that one can make a global connection with 100,000 people from a little town in the northwoods.

Yikes!!

I returned from a couple of delightful and inspiring days of District Conference to find that the comment section on my "What Wesleyans Do Well" post morphed into it's own incredible life form!! OK gang -- here's the scoop: 1. I deeply appreciate the many regular readers of this blog. Hundreds of different people from all over the world come by each week. I have several daily readers. Some weekly. Some are hit and miss -- but I am grateful for each one. The vast majority has never commented. I'd love to hear from ya! 2. I appreciate all those who leave comments. The negative and controversial ones are fine with me. (I've deleted a few that I thought were totally inappropriate -- but not very many.) I want people to have freedom in this forum to say what's on their hearts. Anonymous comments are ok with me too, but I'd like for them to steer clear from personal attacks. 3. Those who speak negatively of their church experience are helpful to me. They hel...

Under Appreciated Missional Bloggers

Brother Maynard started a list of "under valued, and under appreciated" missional blogs. I was surprised to see that I was listed in the early going (Thanks to Missional Jerry for the plug) It feels kind of like being on the ground floor of some Amway pyramid scheme. I'm honored to be on the list -- but not sure I'm crazy about the idea of being "under valued" and "under appreciated." The list has grown quite a bit since I was added on Saturday -- but I thought I'd pass along the latest from my links: Emerging Grace Robbymac Lily Nathan Colquhoun John Smulo Todd Hiestand Theopraxis Chuck Warnock John Lunt Webb Kline Mark O. Wilson Rick Meigs Brother Maynard MakDaddy Glenn Hager Paul Mayers Jamie Swann Paul Walker Jerry Frear Phil Wyman Rainer Halonen Shannon Matt Stone Erika Haub John Santic Colin Lamm Julie Clawson Duncan McFadzean Adam Gonnerman Les Chatwin Matt Wiebe Rupert Ward John Lynch et al Ra'Ah Australian Bloggers Mayberry ...

Somebody recently asked, "Aren't you a little OLD to be blogging? I thought that craze was just for college students, teenagers, and youth pastors with too much time on their hands." While I concede the fact that I'm an "elder statesman" in the blogosphere, and that most of my blogging buddies are at least twenty years younger than me -- I want you to know that I am definitely NOT the oldest. Meet Bloggin' OLIVE. . . Age 107
