Words Can Hurt
My little friend, Linnea Cocharan, won second place in the "No Name Calling Week" poetry contest this week.
I share this excellent work with her permission:
Words Can Hurt
"Think before you speak"
Is good advice to know.
Don't let your mouth just leak,
But learn to stop the flow.
Words can really hurt--
Sometimes they feel like knives.
That's why you shouldn't blurt
Unless it's something nice!

I'm impressed!!! I wonder if she'd give me permission to print this out in a larger version and post it in my classroom at school?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of words - - - - I TALKED about you today at lunch - - - were your ears burning?
Hi Keetha--I'm Linnea's mom. We would LOVE for you to use it in your classroom. It's such an easy, direct, but light-hearted thing to remember, isn't it? You can check out the website, www.nonamecallingweek.org to view all of the winners. I was told it would be posted today, but I haven't seen it yet. Hey, I'm impressed too!
ReplyDeleteHi Naomi!!! Thank you so much for responding to me so quickly!!! I'm going to post it.

ReplyDeleteMy homeroom class struggles with the words they say to each other. I read this poem to them yesterday, and because of the word "blurt" in it - - - they thought I WROTE IT and was just trying to pass it off as being from someone else. I guess I've overused the word.
One student asked for a copy.
I've printed it out and will get it mounted and posted on Monday.
Thanks.
