Getting Fed

"I'm leaving the church!"

"Oh? Why are you leaving?"

"Because I'm not getting fed! In fact, I've just been starving spiritually."

"How old are you again?"

"51"

"And how long have you been a Christian?"

"37 years."

Hmmm -- O.K. Maybe the preacher is less than inspirational, but It would seem that a 51 year old who has been a Christian for 37 years should be able to cook up some of his own grub and stave off starvation.

  1. Spot on!

I'm not sure if this was simply an illustration or if it recently happened to you but that attitude you described is all to obvious in many Christians.

What I find discouraging is that I see Christians trying to witness and outreach to the lost, and right behind them is 10 more Christians telling them how bad the Church is and every little flaw they have seen in the last 40 years. There are Christians that don't seem happy unless they are complaining about something in the Church.

There is a major difference between leaving a particular church and abandoning the Christian Faith.

True. I am not saying that there is never a proper time to leave a church. Sometimes, that's the very best thing. However, I also believe that we must take personal responsibility for our own "spiritual feeding"-- and not expect somebody else to do it for us.

A few years ago I had got out of the habit of reading my bible. One night I was laying in bed and I felt hungry like I was starving. I was trying to figure out what I was hungry for and it came to me that I was hungry for the Bible. It was like my spirit was hungry for the word of God.

Yes Mark, each of us is responsible for our own personal feedings.

I read this after I came home from the first class of the quarter. My students are responsible for their own studying, completing homework and asking for help. But, I am responsible to give good meaningful lectures, be available for questions/extra help, encourage them, try to inspire them and especially to make each student feel welcome and wanted in my classroom. I take this responsibility very seriously.

No, I am not implying that a math course is as important as a person's soul/eternal life.
