Ordained Target
“Soon you’re going to be part of a special service to be set apart and ordained. You will get on your knees and other’s that are already ordained will gather around you and lay hands on you and pray a special prayer. During that time, you will be unaware that one of them will place a target on your back.” ( Mayberry Driven Church)
Great topic. This site wants pastoral abuse stories that happen within the church. Can this site be trusted to remain anonymous?
ReplyDeleteI have had to learn this lesson the hard way and I'm not ordained yet. Sometimes I wonder if i really want to be!
ReplyDeleteI assume it is like being a farrier(horse shoer), it's not if your are going to get kicked, it's when and how hard.
ReplyDeleteI have had scared horses hurt me, nervous horses hurt me, mean horses hurt me and even a few nice horses hurt me.
It seems like the one that hurts the most is the one you never see coming and it is never the horse you thought it would be.

Believe me, I know what it is like to have a big target on my back. What hurts more than the person who put the target there, is the arrows from the ones you felt were friends.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jonathan. The one that hurts the most is the one you never see coming and it is never the person you thought it would be.
Sometimes it is the trusted ordained one painting the target!
ReplyDeleteTalk about a surprise attack!
I had inquired into colleges and thought about getting ordained myself.
But the attack by my pastor has made me doubtful of the calling.
I wonder if the Emerging Church is fruit of wounded soldiers like you and me?
ReplyDeleteI have found it's easier to work with unconverted people than people in the church. Church people can be the meanest most uncharitable people you have ever met.
Could it be we are starting to feel a little like Jesus did? He didn't say it would be easy and it isn't. Why should we be surprised. Peter of all people tells us not be surprised at the painful trials that we suffer in 1Peter 4. It hurts but think of all the good people who love their pastor.
ReplyDeleteIm being ordained in less than two months and I LOOK FORWARD to having a target on my back.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why pastors think they are the only ones with targets on their backs. What about the medical field where insurance against attacks is causing many to quit the profession?
ReplyDeleteJustin,
ReplyDeleteWe are so glad you are getting ordained. We know of at least 3 new pastors-to-be who have been discouraged by their mentor who needs total control. We enjoy your comments and attitude.
