That is concerning, but the phrasing of the questions seemed to be designed o elicit negative responses. Barna appears to have gone anit-christianity and anti-church himself. Revolution is just as negative. have to wonder myself how much of whatever he is clearly going through personally is influcing the data they are getting back.
The reality is those answers contradict one another. The church is either unchaning and old fashioned, or recently borken. That he claims both is a big problem for me.
also yes christianity is old fashioned. The bible says clearly believe accept Jesus Christ or choose hell. We need to do a better job of lovingly sharing that message, but it is the message of Jesus Christ.
The church is the one thing on earth that Jesus and od promise to empower and bless. That seems to get ignored by a lot of these anti-church advocates.
I am willing to bet REAL money that not ONE..NOT ONE...speaker at this years International Wesleyan Youth Convention that Christ is the ONLY way to heaven. They will speak on accountability, media, lifestyle, Bible reading, but NOT ONE will mention atheism, Islam, cults, Mormonism, Pluralism, Post-modernism, etc. KEEP this comment somewhere until Januaray (with the conference in late Dec) and see if I am right. If I am wrong, fantastic but both Barna and I know I am not.
If you are asking the question, "well, why wont they mention Christ as the only way?" The answer is this, in order to remain as professional speakers, they less waves they make, the more people they can speak to.
If this is not a place where tears are understood, Then where shall I go to cry? And if this is not a place where my spirit can take wings, Then where shall I go to fly? I don't need another place for trying to impress you With just how good and virtuous I am. I don't need another place for always being on top of things; Everybody knows that it's a sham. I don't need another place for always wearing smiles, Even when it's not the way I feel. I don't need another place to mouth the same old platitudes; Everybody knows that it's not real. So if this is not a place where my questions can be asked, Then where shall I go to seek? And if this is not a place where my heart cry can be heard, Where, tell me where, shall I go to speak? So if this is not a place where tears are understood, Where shall I go, where shall I go to fly? -- Ken Medema
