Decline of Religion in America

The news reported yesterday on the dismal state of religion in America.

I think the increased mumber of people who have "no religion" (15%) has something to do with the attitude, character and behavior of the 76% who claim to be Christians (specifically, the 34% who call themselves evangelical.)

A couple of thoughts:
1) We need a revival in America.
2) Christians and churches need to practice what they preach
3) They will know we are Christians by our love

Mark, could you post the quote that you used at the beginning of Sunday's sermon--about believing in nothing, etc.

    Mark,

I have never agreed more. Christians, specially evangelicals, have done more to discourage Christianity than anything else.

Many of us have a much deeper faith than ever before. We just choose not to be part of an organized denomination that has hurt us deeply and failed to love us at all. HRH

    Amen to your three points.
Another one I have been thinking about lately is Jesus' prayer in John 17:20-23...

"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
